Police seek murderer who fled while on three-day pass

Police are searching for a convicted murderer who never returned from a day pass from a minimum-security prison near Gravenhurst, Ont.

Ashley Brent Crawford, 30, was on a three-day, unescorted day pass from Beaver Creek Institution but failed to report back Friday night.

Ontario Provincial Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Crawford. They said he has friends in the Pembroke, Brighton and Trenton areas and suspect he may contact them.

They are asking the public for help in finding Crawford, but warn that anyone who comes in contact with him that he is considered dangerous.

Crawford is serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2001 of setting a fire that killed his girlfriend's former lesbian lover.

Crawford was convicted of first-degree murder after he set fire to Nancy Fillmore's house in Killaloe, Ont. while she was inside, drunk and asleep.

He is described as a 30-year-old white male, 5'10", 155 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the provincial police fugitive squad at 416-808-5900 or toll free at 1-866-870-ROPE (7673) or to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
